Pressing Matters represents a remarkable evolution in Coal River Valley winemaking, combining distinguished heritage with architectural excellence. Founded in 2002 by Greg Melick AO SC and his wife Michelle, this award-winning vineyard sits in the heart of the Coal River Valley, just 30 minutes from Hobart near the historic town of Richmond. The property showcases 21 hectares of premium vineyards planted on ancient Jurassic limestone soils that bring exceptional elegance and finesse to their estate-grown wines.
In late 2019, Anthony and Kay Hall joined the Melicks as partners, united by their shared passion for Burgundy and cool-climate viticulture. This partnership has ushered in an exciting new chapter for Pressing Matters, including the acquisition of the renowned Morningside Vineyard and the opening of a stunning architect-designed cellar door in late 2023. Under the expertise of acclaimed Tasmanian winemaker Samantha Connew, Pressing Matters continues to produce some of Tasmania's most highly awarded wines, with a focus on minimal-intervention winemaking that allows the unique Coal River Valley terroir to shine through in every bottle.
