Mayfield Estate represents a remarkable blend of Tasmanian agricultural heritage and boutique cool-climate winemaking excellence. Located just 10 minutes south of Swansea at Little Swanport on Tasmania’s stunning East Coast, this family-owned vineyard and working sheep farm has been owned by the Dunbabin family since 1969, producing super-fine Merino wool alongside premium wines from their boutique vineyard.
In 2010, following successive droughts on the east coast, the Dunbabin family made the strategic decision to diversify into viticulture. For six years, grapes from their initial six hectares of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay were destined for premium Australian sparkling wine production. Today, these same grapes, along with more recent plantings of Pinot Gris and Shiraz, go into creating Mayfield Estate’s distinctive wine range from nine hectares of carefully tended vines.
The stunning cellar door, completed in 2022, is positioned to make the most of the magnificent views across Great Oyster Bay. Facing the bay’s dramatic entrance at Schouten Passage, guests can look north as far as the golden strand of Dolphin Sands and south to majestic Maria Island and the Tasman Sea.
